About Me
A hobby baker turned Fashion Design graduate turned wedding cake designer. That’s pretty much how Sugar Coated Cakes began in 2009. I started baking to occupy my time after graduating, and soon after cupcakes and cookies became weekly orders, and then birthday cakes and eventually it snowballed into wedding and celebration cakes (pun intended!)
My love for food, baking and fashion has definitely been instrumental in creating my signature wedding cake design style. You’ve probably heard of the 10,000 hour rule, which was popularized by Malcolm Gladwell.
As Gladwell tells it, the rule goes like this: it takes 10,000 hours of intensive practice to achieve mastery of complex skills and materials, albeit in the correct way.
After reading this, I can gladly say that I’ve definitely put in 10000 hours (and more) doing recipe development and baking from scratch, honing my decorating skills, constantly learning new ones and keeping abreast of the latest trends.
So if you’re looking for your dream cake, be it something grand, OTT or petite and pretty, you have definitely come to the right place. Where every show-stopping work of art, tastes as good as it looks, and is created with love, passion and creativity.
Our Mission
Our mission at Sugar Coated Cakes is to craft unforgettable moments of joy and celebration through the artistry of our cakes. With each creation, we aspire to exceed our client’s expectations, bringing their dream wedding visions to life as deliciously and beautifully as possible. We are committed to using only the finest ingredients, paired with meticulous attention to detail and creativity, to deliver cakes that look stunning and taste divine.
Our Team / Behind the Scenes:
I have 2 assistants that I treasure with my life. They love doing this just as much as I do. 1 is a baker and icing roller of note, and the other is our ganache, buttercream and filling maker.
I cut, fill and crumb coat EVERY SINGLE CAKE that’s made in the SCC kitchen. And then we all end up decorating together, doing the things that we are good at. Sugar flowers are split between the 3 of us and we can churn out hand made flowers at the speed of a machine!
And last, but not least, there has to be 1 man running this circus. My husband, who has his own import/export business to run, does my buying and gets all the little errands done, and makes sure that every single wedding cake gets delivered safely and on time.
If you see a man with a long list in Party Themes or Makro, who looks like he knows what he’s buying, it’s him!
When there are cakes up to our eyeballs in the kitchen, there is very little talking. We all have high functioning anxiety and thrive on stress, but we move at snail pace when there’s only 1 wedding cake in the kitchen! 🤣
Team work makes the dream work.
